Integrated Martial Arts Training...
...is a training regimen designed to explore martial techniques from various disciplines. it is also an exploration of conflict management principles. Acquaro-sensei has trained in (and taught) a number of martial arts disciplines over the last 30+ years (including Karate-do, Aikido, Judo).
This training is based on the premise that there are a limited number of “defensive outcomes” or “end-games” to an aggressive (psychological or physical) encounter. One should be adept at each of them, so that one can responsibly and effectively bring the conflict to the intended conclusion. Depending on the circumstances and constraints (e.g., one’s relationship to the aggressor; one’s ethical principles; the capacity of the aggressor to inflict harm; particular rules of engagement), different approaches to ending the conflict must be selected.
The goal of the training is fourfold:
1) Learn about the different defensive outcomes or end-games.
2) Drawing from various martial disciplines, to be be exposed to a variety of effective responses to achieve each of the defensive outcomes.
3) Given one’s particular preferences and capacities, to achieve competency at a selected set of effective responses to achieve each of the defensive outcomes.
4) To learn and explore a variety of conflict resolution principles that can be utilized in all types of conflicts, be they psychological and/or physical in nature.
